Wood Tales – Tahta Öyküler – Contes des bois – Baso-Mutilak
This Franco-Turkish cultural visual art partnership explores contemporary rural issues and creates ties between artists and rural communities highlighting cultural activity in rural areas. The Alevi Woodcutter community villages and the Basque town of Hazparne become the site and the subject of the artistic process.
Wood Tales is an in-depth exploration of a Turkish community who fled to the woods centuries ago leading a nomadic life-style and making a living from cutting and manufacturing wooden goods for surrounding populations. NomadMind & Ba Sarea collectives have been collecting inhabitants’ testimonies addressing the issues of the traditional woodcutter families and creating woodblock prints during workshops in Çınarköy which conceptualize the many stories and symbols composing these peoples’ traditions, beliefs and life-style.
